From rituals, shrines, and festivals to literature, music, and heritage policies, mysticism emerges as both a spiritual practice and a cultural, political, and imaginative force. It examines how mystical practices create belonging, negotiate spaces, and respond to uncertainty, while also generating contestation, exclusion, and power struggles. By comparing different contexts, participants will reflect on mysticism as a resource for memory, creativity, and solidarity, as well as a field of conflict, negotiation, and city-making.\nFor the detailed program, please click here ( https://mecam.tn/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Traveling-Academy_MECAM-Program-Gabes.pdf ).\nFor the abstracts and participants’ biographies, please click here ( https://mecam.tn/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/MECAM-Traveling-Academy-Abstracts-and-bios.pdf ).\nWe look forward to your participation!\n \n\n\n\n\nA Video Portrait of Gabès\n\n\n\n\nThis short video introduces the city of Gabès, highlighting some of the landscapes that shape its character, from the oasis to the sea and the surrounding mountains.\nThe video was filmed and edited by Anis Ajala, a student at the Higher Institute of Languages of Gabès (ISLG).
