CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Publication Workshop
( Deadline: 27 January 2026; 12.00h CET )
The Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM) invites applications for participation in the Publication Workshop held in Hamburg from 17-19 June 2026. MECAM’s Publication Workshops seek to train the next generation of authors, reviewers, and editors among MECAM fellows, partners, and collaborators. MECAM’s consortium partner in Hamburg, the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA), is an intellectual hub for social sciences with a cross-regional and global focus. GIGA organizes this workshop to strengthen the academic writing skills of scholars from within the MECAM network. In line with MECAM´s guiding theme “Imagining Futures: Dealing with Disparity”, the workshop inspires participants to discuss and rethink imbalances in academic knowledge production.
The three-day programme will consist of seminars, roundtables, and hands-on writing and feedback sessions. The seminars will include practical guidance on academic writing and publishing in high quality journals. The writing sessions will be supported by academic mentors and editors of journals as well as the book series “Perspectives on the Maghreb” (Routledge).
The workshop is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) through the Merian Institute for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM) based at the University of Tunis. MECAM has been founded by a consortium of Tunisian and German research institutions to promote free academic exchange and cooperation in the Humanities and Social Sciences in and across
the Maghreb and other regions of the world within five Interdisciplinary Research Fields (IRFs): “Aesthetics & Cultural Practice”, “Inequality & Mobility”, “Memory & Justice”, “Resources & Sustainability”, and “Identities & Beliefs” (more information on this can be found on www.mecam.tn).
