MECAM SPECTRUM – EVENT WEEK

MECAM Fellows of the cohort 2025-2026 – All affiliated at the Université de Tunis

The Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM) is pleased to invite you to the 2025–2026 Fellows Cohort Event Week, titled “Unruly Voices, Images, and Bodies: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Maghreb,” which will take place from 14 to 16 April 2026 in Tunis.

Organized collaboratively by MECAM fellows of the 2025–2026 cohort and coordinated by Ms. Faten Bouchrara (MECAM Fellows Coordinator), this interdisciplinary and multi-modal event aligns with MECAM’s guiding themes: Imagining Futures and Dealing with Disparities.

The event will bring together fellows and researchers from diverse disciplinary backgrounds to foster dialogue, share research findings, and explore new perspectives on the Maghreb. This year’s Event Week explores the concept of the unruly as a lens to examine knowledge, culture, and power across the Maghreb. Through presentations and discussions spanning diverse disciplines and methodologies, fellows will reflect on themes such as marginality, resistance, agency, migration, language, and cultural production. The program brings together research addressing art, media, institutions, public space, and political participation, highlighting the region’s dynamic and evolving realities.

The Event Week aims to present ongoing MECAM research, foster interdisciplinary dialogue, and encourage critical and experimental approaches to studying the Maghreb. By focusing on unruly voices, images, and bodies, the event seeks to open new perspectives on the pasts, presents, and imagined futures of the region.
