MECAM Introduction Week: 2026–2027 Cohort & 2026–2029 Cohort
We are delighted to welcome two new cohorts of MECAM fellows this year!
Nine researchers have been selected to benefit from our Short-Term Fellowships, lasting up to eight months, while three researchers are joining the Long-Term Fellowship Programme for a period of three years, from 2026 to 2029.
The 2026 Introduction Week will take place in Tunis on 7, 8, 9 and 16 September, as well as on 6 October, before moving to Sfax on 27 and 28 October. The programme will offer our new fellows an Introduction to MECAM’s academic and institutional environment through presentations, academic exchanges, meetings with researchers and members of the MECAM network, as well as visits to several research institutions and sites of scientific and cultural significance.
Our fellowship programme offers tunisian and international researchers the opportunity to develop their research projects and collaborate on issues related to the Maghreb, the MENA region and beyond. By that, it seeks to explore the complex processes through which models and visions of societies’ futures are (re)negotiated in the Maghreb, while analysing the cultural, economic, political and social inequalities that shape the region.
Under the theme “Imagining Futures: Dealing with Disparity”, MECAM develops research across five interconnected Interdisciplinary Research Fields (IRFs): Aesthetics & Cultural Practice, Inequality & Mobility, Memory & Justice, Resources & Sustainability, and Identities & Beliefs.
Through this Introduction Week, we aim to facilitate the integration of our new fellows into MECAM’s structures and networks, while creating an initial space for academic exchange, dialogue and collaboration.
