The Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM) is pleased to announce its participation in MIASA’s Final Conference of the Main Phase (2020–2026) — a landmark event marking six years of advancing African and Global South perspectives within a global academic landscape still largely shaped by the Global North.

Over the course of its main funding phase, MIASA has brought together scholars from a wide range of disciplines to examine contemporary and historical questions of sustainable governance across Africa and beyond, challenging dominant theories and forging new paths in transformative research. This final conference, coinciding with the Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa, offers a vital opportunity to take stock of these collective achievements and to look ahead toward more equitable academic futures.

MECAM is proud to contribute actively to this milestone. Dr. Julius Dihstelhoff, MECAM’s Director (Germany) , will join a dedicated roundtable alongside representatives from the other four Merian Centres — a space for deepening ties across our shared network. Dr. Khaoula Matri, Principal Investigator at MECAM, will participate in the session on “The Usefulness of the Concept of Sustainable Governance in Research and Policy in Africa”, further reflecting MECAM’s commitment to sustained intellectual and collaborative engagement within the Merian family.

We look forward to a rich exchange at the University of Ghana, Legon.
